Today I booted up Windows on my laptop for the first time in several months (normally I run Linux). As a precaution, I ran an AVG anti-virus scan on the whole disk. Wasn't expecting to find anything, but it did actually come up with two "infections".

Lo and behold - AVG actually flagged the Airpush SDK sitting in my Dropbox folder as a "potentially dangerous threat" titled "Android/AirPush". And proceeded to quarantine those files as a matter of safety.

It's one thing for an over-zealous anti-virus app on your smartphone to start flagging notification ads as harmful. But it's another thing entirely when the anti-virus software starts deleting the SDK from your computer!

Has anyone else encountered this issue before? I'm pretty annoyed at it personally. Sure, some people stuff Airpush notifications so much that they can become spam. But flagging the SDK as a potentially dangerous virus? Really?

This means now I can't run an anti-virus scan on my computer without having to worry about un-quarantining my perfectly legitimate SDKs. Good thing I don't use Windows regularly, otherwise I could see this becoming a big pain.

"Words Don't Come Easy" is a simple but addictive word puzzle game that just got released on Google Play.

You start on a 63-field play board with 62 lettered tiles. You have to form at least 3-letter words horizontally, vertically or both since words can also intersect by sharing a common tile.
Valid words are coloured in green and can be cleared by double-tapping on them.
Tiles are moved with fling gestures. You can also drag a tile by performing a long-press on it.

The primary goal is to clear all tiles. If you've accomplished that try to do it again with the least amount of double-taps.

cheers speedball ...

Income Report - High CTR, Low $

Hey all - this forum was incredibly helpful when figuring out how to monetize my app, so I thought I'd share my experience as well.

My app (Song Key Finder) was released 3 weeks ago. My goal is to get it to a point where I can make back my hours in income, though I'm piddling along at the moment.

The app works by recording a sound sample with the device's mic and returning the key that sample was in. The audio analysis occurs after it's recorded, so there's essentially dead time for the user. I used this time to play a video ad (rather than go with an app pre-roll) because it's less invasive and had potential for multiple impressions per app use. I also have a banner ad at the bottom.

Distribution after 30 days
SlideME: 990 dls (free)
Lots of initial dls (seem to be a lot higher for games, almost zero for paid apps). Not sure if updates are pushed to these users or not. Also, users may not be in countries where networks like AdColony are serving ads.

Google Play: 320 dls (free), 3 dls (paid)
Analytics are good, and potential for Play Store cross-promotion is good. Getting 40-50% active install rate.

Analytics
Playtomic
I used Playtomic for analytics because it was free, but it had a few minor issues with location reporting, and it took me a while to dial in how the analytics work. It has been a useful troubleshooting tool, though, to track ad network behavior and fill rates. I'm getting a 1.5-min average app session length.

Video Ads
I'm getting about 0.5 video ad impressions per app open. So, less impressions that a pre-roll, but I hope the increased engagement will add to the lifetime value of a user.

AdColony
I love this network ($5-10 CPM, pay-by-impression, and fantastic support), but the videos are getting played only 5-10% of the time. I'm not sure if this is a fill rate issue or if my SlideME downloads are in territories their advertisers aren't buying. It could also be a bug on my end, which I'm dreading, but I'll keep feeling it out.

Vungle
Vungle is my fallback, and it's played videos almost every time AdColony can't. The first couple days saw a $5-10 CPM, but it has since dropped to $0, pulling the average down to less than $1. It's CPI, so my only guess is that my users aren't that interested in installing games, or possibly they'd rather get their key finder results than leave the app and install another one.

Banner Ads
Revmob
I use Revmob interstitials as a video ad fallback, but they're rarely called. I use the adlink ad type in a row with "Rate" and "Upgrade" buttons just above the banner ads. Currently this button gets a 5-10% CTR (per app open, essentially a 90-sec refresh). Before I added Mobclix, this button occupied the entire banner ad slot and got 25% CTR. Despite this high CTR, I only have one Revmob install so far, with about 30% of the CPI as Vungle installs and a current CPM of $0.67 (though that's counting adlink clicks as a single impression with a 100% CTR, so actual CPM is much lower, more around $0.03-0.06). This is a far cry from what I've heard from other developers, so it may be that my audience just doesn't care about installing free games.

Mobclix
I use a banner ad at the bottom of the app. I started with a 15-sec refresh, but after seeing low CPMs (~$0.07), I changed to 30-sec, which doubled my CTR, which is now at an unbelievable 9%. Impressions are still very low (3000/mo at 30-sec refresh), so my CPM is unchanged. Although changing the refresh effectively halved my income, I'm only dealing with pennies here, so I hope the CTR will encourage advertisers to buy space if my impressions rise (I think that's how it works??).

Conclusion
This has been incredibly hard. 1/3 DAUs click a banner and 1/2 see a video ad. Still, in 30 days, with 1300 current installs:

Adcolony: $0.70 ($7 CPM video)
Mobclix: $0.15 ($0.07 CPM banner)
Vungle: $0.75 (<$1 CPM video)
Revmob: $0.15 ($0.05 CPM button/interstitial)
Free version total: $1.75 (45% active, 3% "+1'd" it)
Paid version total: $10.50 (0.9% adoption vs. free)

So either most people hate the app and click on an ad to leave it (which reduces a user's lifetime value significantly), or my users don't want to install the games being advertised on the CPI networks (Revmob, Vungle). I'm pretty sure the low Mobclix CPM is due to my low monthly impressions. I'll keep you all updated next month!

Ever wondered where your app ranks in Google Play? Tired of scrolling down and counting how many apps are in front of yours? Now, simply enter the search words(what somebody would type in to find your app), the actual title of your app(exactly how it shows in Google Play), and the developer's name to find out the rank of your app! Try different search words to see if your app ranks higher or lower.

**NOTE**
*Even though entering the developer's name is optional, it is recommended, especially when there is more than one app with the same name. If you do not enter a developer name and two apps have the same title, the app with the highest rank will show.

*This will search through the first 500 results that would show up in Google Play. If your app is not in the top 500, it will not show up. Also, please check your spelling or try different search words.

*This app currently only searches the US version of Google Play.

*This app was developed by me, mostly for myself, to find where my apps are in the market. There maybe some issues dealing with special characters in app names. If you find any bugs, having problems, or would like new features, please send me an email.

*App is free and ad free! If you like the app, please leave a positive review and check out my other apps! Maybe I could actually see them move up in the market some

Hi guys,

yesterday I noticed something really strange: When I looked at my total revenue for today, it showed 50.xx$. A few minutes later, after hitting the refresh button, my total revenue suddendly dropped to 45.xx$.

Again this morning (i live in Europe), just a few seconds before airpush console shows the statistics for the new day, my total revenue was 52.xx$, and as soon as the statistics for today were available, I looked up the revenue for "yesterday", and it dropped to 50.xx$ again!

That was a chargeback (or something else?) of around 7$ on a single day, and I didn't even check my revenue all day long! I wonder if someone else has noticed this? Is it normal? Is it a bug? Is it chargebacks from advertisers or airpush?

Trying to manage my financial records (for tax purposes) this year was a huge challenge. As a developer I've been using many different ad networks, which pay in several different currencies. Some via Paypal, some by direct bank transfer. Trying to keep track of all this stuff in a simple spreadsheet, and then present the data neatly for taxation, is not something I'm looking forward to doing again!

Does anyone know of a decent software platform (like MYOB, or Mint online) which would be good for Android developers with multi-currency earnings?

I've looked at MYOB's online offerings, but it seems they don't support multiple currencies. At this stage I don't need some of the traditional business management tools (such as invoicing & CRM tools). Just need a good way to keep track of income & expenses.

Something hosted in the cloud would be good, but desktop software is alright too if it works. Bonus points if it can integrate with Paypal.

I'm getting an attorney and I have already contacted most of these people who left negative feedback of your add online"

The app that guy is talking about is a simple fun app with random results.
The SDKs of Admob, Leadbolt, Airpush and Senddroid are integrated and all of them are activated.
I think it's not possible that Advertisements (In-App, Push and Icon) can crash a phone.
Is that only an empty threat?
The SDKs of Admob, Leadbolt, Airpush and Senddroid are integrated and all of them are activated.
I think it's not possible that Advertisements (In-App, Push and Icon) can crash a phone.

What would you do if you were me?
Is that only an empty threat?

Best regards

This is THE ultimate app for curing your insomnia (sleeplessness) and it's absolutely FREE. It's packed with useful content and includes:

Hello everyone. Please forgive my english if you read something weird xD

So I finally decided to leave AdMob because of the low CPC that I have been getting for the last months (0.010).

I would like to try MoPub with some ad networks like Millenial Media, MobFox, Jumptap, and AdMob in last instance in case the other networks don't send any ad.

I've been playing with the sdk and the control panel of MoPub. I added some networks, but how do I select what network I want to check for ads in first place, or second, or third... Or is this something that MoPub does automatically? In that case, how does MoPub select the ad to show? Looking for the ad with the higher CPC?

And can someone explain to me what is MoPub Marketplace and how does it works?

Thanks for your help
